The Mountain Project was an interesting experience. It wasn't ridiculously hard, it was meant to teach us the basics of the different power-tools. However, again, our patience was put to the test. We were all having to keep track of multiple pieces, manage our time to also work on our self directed projects, and share supplies and tools with every other student in the class. There were a lot of obstacles; running out of supplies and time being one of the hardest things to overcome. A lot of us were stressed out over them, but in the end we all ended up turning in a completed mountain project to later sell (see final projects page).
The first step was designing our mountains, everyone got a board for the pieces and drew the sky and mountains, and some started designing their color schemes as well. Following that we planed our pieces so that they were all the same height when lying flat on the board, then we started cutting them to fit in our pieces drawn out on the board.
These pictures show us starting our sky and our completely assembled mountains.
After this we began sanding and staining our pieces to make them look like this:
We began gluing them down, so that it ended up looking like this:
After gluing them down we cut off the excess wood and evened out the sides so that it would look perfect. After that, we built and attached a frame, the final product was:
I definitely learned to keep moving forward and keep calm throughout this project, I was happy with the final product and very happy to be done with it. I got a lot of positive feedback from people that saw me working on it which was also very rewarding!
